Cubesat survived explosive launcher failure
Investigation following the Launcher Antares 130 explosion shortly after ignition (last October 2014) reveals that the Danish 2U cubesat GOMX-2 the burst. Undoubtly, a cubesat structure is very robust: instead of a central tube as a main frame, as for traditional telecommunication or observation satellites, each side of the cube participate to the rigidity of the structure. Anyway, the “return to flight” of GOMX-2 may required some deep check, test and eventually re-work. If it was insured, it would not be surprising that the insurers have paid up to the price of the satellite.
